Introduction
Metadata is a field where you can enter additional information about an asset type or asset. For example, the content of a fuel tank which can vary by vehicle type. Then we add the exact contents in liters as metadata and link it to the appropriate vehicle.

How do I add metadata to an asset type?
1. Use the navigation menu to go to the "Assets" page.
2. Open the settings of an asset type and navigate to the "Metadata" tab.
3. Click the "Add asset type metadata" button.
4. Insert metadata name and value.
5. Press Save.
Caution! Do not copy symbols (such as "," and ".") to the "Value" field. This may cause misinterpretations in the system!
The metadata is now created.

How do I overwrite metadata for one specific asset?
1. Edit an asset whose asset type contains metadata and navigate to the "Metadata" tab.
2. Turn off the "Use default" switch to specify a new value.
3. Save the changes
The metadata is now overwritten for this particular asset.

How do I use metadata in the portal?
- Go to the dashboard where you want to display metadata. Open the settings of the widget you want to use for this purpose.
- Click on the "Computed measurement" switch. This is only possible with the following widgets:
- Chart
- SingleBlock
- Meter
- Heat map
- Pie chart
- Timeline
3. Add the metadata in the following format: [#meta:VARIABLE_NAME#]
For example: [#meta:TankContent#]
4. Now you can perform a calculation using a sensor value.
For example: Display the remaining fuel level as a percentage:
([vehicle_1|fuel_liters] / [#meta:Tank Capacity#]) * 100
Save the changes.
