What are Assets?
An asset aggregates data from sources such as temperature sensors, energy meters, generators, water meters, ...., for example.
This data is displayed in a dashboard.
The dashboard then allows you to analyze this data and optimize your business processes.

What are Asset types?
The asset type determines which sources an asset is going to receive data from.
Data sources that are not relevant to an asset type are filtered out.
This simplifies the creation of an asset.
The asset type acts as a standard model so that new assets, of a certain type, do not have to be created completely from scratch. 
Given the complexity of creating such an asset type calculus has already created the appropriate asset types for you.
Suppose we have an asset type "Generator," several generators are added as assets using this type. In each asset of this type, we want to keep track of similar data. Therefore, in this example, we add the four fields "Temperature" "Output", "Modem" and "Position".
When adding new assets of type "Generator," all you need to do is fill in the fields listed above with the appropriate data sources from a gateway. So an asset type actually makes it very easy to add a series of similar assets to the Calculus platform.
Asset types are not tied to one specific project; you can also share them with other companies.
By sharing an asset type with another company, you can simplify the process of creating assets and dashboards for this company.

How do I add an Asset type?
Use the menu on the left to access the Assets page.
Click in the upper right corner on "Add" and then on "Asset type."
A screen will appear where you can enter basic sensor data:
Name:the
name of the asset type (e.g. CO2 sensor).
Datasource: you can add one or more data sources. A data source has several properties, namely:
- Type: the type of sensor used.
- Name:how you want this sensor to be called (name must be unique).
- Description: a brief description of what the sensor does.
- Show activity Indicator: it is best to leave this switch on, if this switch is on you can see on the platform whether the sensor is active or not.
- Maximum time period before status turns red (in minutes): the number of minutes before the status goes from green to red when the asset is no longer receiving data.

How do I add an Asset?
Click "Add" at the top right and then click "Asset."
A screen appears where you can enter the basic details of the asset:
Type: The asset type by which this asset is constructed.
Name: what do you want this asset to be called (name must be unique).
Key: the key field is automatically generated based on the selected name.
Description: here you can describe the asset.
Datasource: select a data source for the asset.
Save the settings.
