Getting started
Quickstart Guide
This article will guide you through the first steps when you are invited to join the Calculus Portal.
There are different types of users with different permissions. If you do not have the proper permissions, you may not be able to use some of the features mentioned in this article.
1. Register and login
Follow the steps on the page First time login. If you have questions or problems around logging in, you can find more information on the page How do I log in to the Calculus portal.
2. Securing your account
In the settings page, you can manage your account's security settings.
We recommend that every user of the Calculus portal turn on and use two-factor authentication.
This is an extra step you must go through every time you login so that your account is protected should someone find out or steal your password.
For more information about Two-factor authentication and how to enable it, please refer to the page Settings manual.
3. Navigating the portal
Navigation on the portal is largely via the menu on the left, for more info on the content of the menu bar, please refer to the relevant article reading.
4. Manage corporate account
You can change your company's information by going to the companion page .
The companies page is located on the sidebar menu on the left side of the screen.
- Select the company whose information you want to view or edit.
- Change name and address and press Save at bottom right.
In the portal, a company consists of assets, gateways & projects.
Inviting users into the company
When you add a user to the company, you can determine to what extent this new user can perform actions in the portal. We do this using user permissions.
This reduces the security risk and gives you control over what is done.
Follow the steps on the page Invite a user to a company to invite new users.
5. Manage projects
You can create a project to collect and display connected data. A project does this using assets, dashboards, alerts, diagrams, images,... that are bundled together. These concepts are explained in the following sections.
You can think of a project as temporary, or as a permanent project to which you want to add multiple dashboards.
Read the article How do I create a new project? for more explanation.
Users invited at the project level only have access to this project. This prevents a new user from having access to all of your company's projects.
6. Adding gateways to your business
A gateway sends data from your asset(s) to the portal.
Using this data, you can create the dashboards in which this data is structured and clearly displayed for monitoring.
Follow the steps in the manual How do I register a new gateway in my company? to register your gateway(s).
For information on editing a gateway go to the page How can I edit a gateway?
7. Managing assets
In the portal, we use the term "assets" as a collective term for all kinds of devices in use, from co2 meters to generators. These assets receive their data from gateways.
Gateways and assets are linked using datasources.
A detailed explanation of assets and how to set them up for your business can be found in this article.
8. Creating Dashboards
The Dashboards page allows you to display data from all your assets in an organized way. Dashboards are fully customizable, so you can set them up the way you want.
At this item read how to quickly put together a dashboard.

- Information displays.
- Performs an action such as changing the room temperature.
