Introduction
Data sources provide your asset with the information that is displayed to the user.
The data comes from the gateway that has been connected to your asset.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to assign data sources to assets and to manage them.

Instructions
1. Go to the tab.
2. Click on the asset whose data source you want to change. In the settings window, go to the Data Sources tab.
3. Press the 'Switch data source' button if it is visible. If not go to the subsection 'Manual exchange data sources'.
4. Type the serial number of the new gateway in the "With" section, and click "Swap.
If there has never been a gateway associated with this asset before, the "Replace" field will be blank.
5. A new screen opens where you can review the changes one more time.
Click the "Confirm" button if the changes are correct.
If you add a data source from another gateway, the smart gateway swap button will no longer be available.
If the swap cannot be made 100% successfully you will also reive a notification. The data sources that can be exchanged successfully will be exchanged. Data sources which cannot be exchanged successfully must be entered manually. Please refer to the section 'Manual exchange of data sources' of this article.

Manually exchanging data sources
The instructions in this section should only be performed if the 'Swap data source' button is not available or if you prefer to do the data source adjustments manually.
Press the Edit button (pencil icon) to the right of the name of a data source.
2. Click on "Add data source".
If you leave the mouse pointer on a data source (do not click) the raw address with the slave id at the back appears in a black bar . You can see this depicted below.
3. When adding a new data source, enter the date it has been built in. To do this, click the toggle button called "Use start date.
Then you can click on the field, to the right of the toggle button, to select a date.
4. Enter an end date for the old gateway. This is the date on which it was replaced. You can enter an end date by clicking on the timeline of the old gateway. An example of a timeline can be found in the image below.
5. Click on the 'use end date' toggle button. Then you can click on the field, to the right of the toggle button to select a date.

Advanced data source management
Some assets require data from multiple gateways and/or data sources. Again, you can manage this through the portal.
To edit a specific data source, click on the pencil icon to the right of the data source.
Next, the advanced data source management page appears.
On this window, you will see all data sources that have ever been connected to this asset. You can add a new data source using the "Add Data Source" button.

Adding a data source
Clicking the "Add data source" button opens the add screen. This screen allows you to add any data source to your asset.
You can select a start and end date for that data source. If you do not wish to do this, simply disable "Use start date".

.
Customize data source
You can manage data sources by clicking on the horizontal bar of the data source.
When you click the "Edit" a screen opens, where you can edit the selected data source.
Clicking stop causes the data source to stop sending new data to this asset. The system asks you to confirm your decision.
It may take a few minutes until this action is fully visible everywhere.
You can also delete a data source. When you
delete a data source from an asset, this asset starts to behave as if it was never associated with the data source.
Old data from this data source will no longer be displayed in this asset.
