Calculus dashboard provides data to make stadiums safer and healthier to return to.
Amsterdam, 29 March 2021 - A digital control room packed with sensor-based data that sports venues can use to monitor the health within their buildings. This smart monitoring system by Calculus is being tested for the first time in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Last Saturday it was already part of a new research project by Fieldlab Events during the international match between the Netherlands and Latvia. Calculus has been commissioned by the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) to investigate how the system can support indoor sports venues and contribute to a safe and healthy return of visiting sports venues such as the ArenA.
Although the ArenA has a great deal of experience in receiving large groups of visitors, COVID-19 means that additional insights and additional measures are required. Research is being done into how the digital control room can play a role. The system will monitor human movements in more detail, sound an alarm if there are too many visitors in one room, provide insight into the air quality in the various reception areas and control special disinfection lamps for disinfecting the toilet areas in the stadium.
Testing of the digital control room will start as soon as the visitors have returned to the ArenA. The ArenA will also use the dashboard to monitor other processes in the stadium, such as energy consumption and the condition of the pitch.
The management platform of Calculus consists of various dashboards and retrieves data from the sensors and technical systems of the ArenA. Think here of the cameras that are used to count the number of spectators, the access control system, thermometers and climate controls within the stadium. The advantage of this system is that it offers the possibility of combining data. An example of this is the use of air quality measurements in hospitality areas to indicate the allowed number of visitors, so that COVID-19 regulations are not violated. In recent years, the ArenA has been a Living Lab for innovations in the field of mobility, sustainability, safety and fan experience. In the past year, the ArenA has actively profiled itself as an innovative test location for COVID-19-related solutions, including the hosting of a large-scale aerosol study by TU Eindhoven and the collaboration with the City of Amsterdam to serve as a testing ground for coronavirus-proof events.
